We have a Story about socks, a Goldendoodle and new wine to share

June 7, 2018

So… The San Dimas Wine Shop has a new wine that needs an explanation. This week we stocked the racks with Smith Story Wine Cellar’s “Lord Sandwich” Red Table Wine. Yes, a wine called Lord Sandwich.

NV Lord Sandwich - Sonoma Red Wine Blend - $21.99

Lord Sandwich is a non vintage Zinfandel, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Carignane, Grenache & Petite Sirah blend. The grapes are all from Sonoma County, mostly the Dry Creek area. This is the 2nd release of Lord Sandwich Red Wine. It has highlights of blackberry, pepper & herbs. It is rich & complex with fine tannins and a smooth finish. Eric Story & Alison Smith-Story have created an excellent Sonoma red blend.

There, however, is more to the story. This wine is named after Eric & Ali’s Goldendoodle named Lord Sandwich. Lord Sandwich is pictured below with his namesake blend. The wine supports Ali’s non-profit Socks for Sandwich, which provides socks for people in need. Here is an expert from the Smith Story web site:

Lord Sandwich Red Table Wine is benefiting www.SocksforSandwich.org, a non-profit we founded in 2014 that provides NEW socks to humans in need. New sock donations support private requests, the Center for Domestic Peace, many displaced families who lost homes in fires and floods throughout America. It all began on the Instagram App (@sandwichthedoodle) due to Lord Sandwich's friendliness and ability to create a smile for thousands who follow him.

For every bottle sold, a NEW pair of socks is given to a human in need. The 1st release was 601 cases, which equaled 7,212 pairs of new socks. The second release is 1,200 cases.

Let’s just say this wine checks a lot of boxes for us:

  • It gives us an opportunity to help people.

  • It is an excellent red blend.

  • There is a dog, with a great atypical name.

  • The puns.

  • Like the bottle says “Giving is Fun!”

When we heard the story, we wanted to be a part, or we wanted a part in the story, or this was a story we could sink our teeth into, or how can we help tell this story. How many times can we make "story" into a double entendre? We will never know, unless we try.

Well, we're in. Lord Sandwich is in the shop and we're ready to share it with you. Lets do some good. Cheers!
